UPASANA ( DEVOTION ) | IWGR IV | PART 16 | PAGE 31-32 | RAMA राम

|| THE PRAYER WHICH MUST BE HEARD ||

That prayer must be heard in which our selfishness is so little as to be the work of GOD Itself . And , at the time of prayer , the mind should be full of ecstasy and self-absorption .

Such a condition has been described in Taitriya Upanishad ( 2-8 )

" From where all the spoken words and the mind come back , without reaching there . "

This stage is that of GODhood ( Brahmavastha ) and here the materialization of all thoughts and desires are ensured , naturally .

This is concerning the highest Upasana . But the Upasana of the stage , just lower than this , is like the belief and faith of a child . This stage is also very sweet and strong . The child believes the parents to have unlimited power , and considers their strength as one's own , behaving as if one is a ruler , when one is in the lap of the parent .

One threatens the Railways , orders the wind and the birds and scolds the river . There is nothing impossible to one's mind . One wants to take the sun and the moon in one's own hands .

" O parent ! Give me the moon to play with . " Blessed and fortunate are those who have so strong a faith in Almighty GOD as to get their every desire fulfilled in no time . If they want milk , they demand it from GOD . If they need food , clothes or anything , they go only to GOD .

A Hindu poet says :

" Why demand anything from the worldly persons ? Why not demand from GOD Itself , so that all your demands may be fulfilled and you may be above wants . "

The only difference between an evil-minded person and a GOD-intoxicated person is that the former has one's desires above devotion and the latter keeps GOD above one's selfish desires . If the latter is GODly , the other is devilish ( full of selfishness , rivalry , jealousy , etc ) .

When the element of love or renunciation in Upasana is greater than that of selfishness , any " demand " is like a donation . But the truth is that demanding is no part of Upasana . But surely , generosity is Upasana .

" If I serve GOD for my selfish gain , it is no devotion . " It is only business or hypocrisy . Nobody gives a lift to a beggar . But , as you know , GOD is the Emperor of this universe . If you go to an emperor to beg something , you will not even be allowed to approach .

In Upasana , you are going to meet GOD . If so , throw away and discard the old , rotten dirty garments of selfishness and mean worldly desires .

According to a Punjabi saying ,

" Only a Knight can be the guest of a Knight . "

So long as you are not a ruler , you can not sit with a ruler . Do even with any sort of desire .

Sit firmly on the throne of renunciation , wear the pearls of dispassion , and put on the crown of divine knowledge .

If GOD , then , tries to slip away from you , you can arrest Rama , as your captive .
